Data and retention
Find where RDST keeps your monitoring history, what it keeps and for how long, and how to remove it.
Where your data lives
Monitoring history stays on your computer, in RDST's data folder:
| Platform | Folder |
|---|---|
| macOS and Linux | ~/.rdst |
| Windows | %USERPROFILE%\.rdst |
Settings, then Data & privacy, shows the folder RDST is using.
The folder holds the readings, Inbox items, nightly reports, deep analyses, the Agent activity log, and your saved queries. The CLI uses the same folder, so a query analyzed in one shows up in the other.
How long things are kept
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Per-minute readings | 48 hours for the top 1,000 queries by load; other tracked queries roll up sooner |
| Minute-level evidence for an Inbox item | As long as that Inbox item exists |
| 5-minute readings | 7 days |
| Hourly readings | 90 days |
| Daily readings | As long as monitoring has room |
| Sampled parameter values | 48 hours |
| Inbox and report event history | 30 days |
| Agent activity | 90 days |
RDST tracks the top 10,000 queries per database. The top 1,000 get full detail. The remaining tracked queries keep 5-minute readings for 48 hours and hourly readings for 30 days. Heavier new queries replace the lightest tracked ones; traffic beyond the limit stays in database totals and the Other band.
Older readings roll up into coarser ones, so a 90-day chart still works after the per-minute detail is gone.
Disk use
Each monitored database has a local storage limit, 250 MB by default. When it fills, RDST rolls up and removes the oldest minute-level readings first to make room. Minute-level evidence for existing Inbox items stays available. The Usage panel in the monitoring settings shows how much a database uses.
Removing the data
Export any data you need before uninstalling RDST Desktop. Uninstalling removes app data, including monitoring history. Updating the app keeps it. To keep the app and clear the data, use Remove all local data in Settings.
Database passwords are never in the data folder. They're in your operating system's keychain. See Settings.
Settings and monitoring limits
Change each database's monitoring settings, turn monitoring off and on, and check how many databases your account can monitor with AI.
Troubleshooting
